Icons of Whisky award winners announced

Whisky Magazine’s ‘Icons of Whisky’ have become one of the highlights of the whisky calendar and the 2014 competition has lived up to its reputation with the number and quality of companies entering the awards.  The Icons are designed to celebrate the people and places behind the amber liquid.  The 2014 Icons of Whisky were announced at a lunch held at the Hub in Edinburgh on 6th December, 2014 and the winners are as follows:

Winners - Icons of Whisky Scotland 2014

  • Whisky Distiller of the Year - Diageo
  • Whisky Ambassador of the Year - David Mair, William Grant and Sons
  • Whisky Distillery Manager of the Year - Michael Heads (Ardbeg)
  • Visitor Centre Manager - Pat Retson (Highland Park)
  • Whisky Brand Innovator of the Year - William Grant and Sons
  • Visitor Attraction of the Year - Laphroaig Distillery
  • Whisky Retailer of the Year Single Retailer - Gordon and MacPhail
  • Whisky Retailer of the Year Multiple retailer - Drinkmonger
  • Whisky Retailer of the Year Online - Royal mile Whiskies

Initially, nominations for the awards are invited from the industry themselves. Based on the evidence supplied, an independent, international, editorial panel, chaired by Rob Allanson, editor of Whisky Magazine, draws up a shortlist from which the winners are picked.  The winners of these Icons and the USA, awarded earlier this year, now go forward to Global Icons of Whisky awarded next year.
